The Papa gave me a run for money; he is a lot bigger than he looks and a lot stronger than I expected. It took me 5 attempts but he got a bath. I decided to forego the nail cutting. He scratched me up a bit, and I got one nice puncture wound, spurting blood and everything, but only one fang got me, so that’s better. Skeeter says my hands look like I am a boxer! He finally just let me catch him, I think he realized he wasn’t going to win. I had wanted to wash the floors, which now have been done thoroughly! He did rip one screen, so there goes another 100 bucks out the window (get the pun?) You would have been freaked if you saw how we were running around the front room and hallway trying to catch him-that boy can jump! He watches my every move, has only hissed and me twice, but I don’t trust him at all. I seriously doubt he is adoptable, plus being an adult makes it that much harder. Again, we will see how the next couple of days go.
Ink Spot (Inky), has diarrhea as well, but it is not that yellowish color; it has been all sorts of colors, but not the one associated with giardia. I can weigh him tomorrow night, but he is fairly big, pot-belly! BTW, he is doing better all the time. He is such a loud purrer! He loves to be held and cuddled; today he played a little, slept in the play structure, and sort of interacted with the other felines. He could not find the litter box, so he used the trash can-much better then the floor! Yesterday he jumped from the bed to the little seat we have under the window, and when Skeeter went to get him, he freaked out, while jumping to the window, he pooped all down the wall and on the new picture frame. Then later, he waited too long to get down (while being cuddled) and when I noticed he was doing the potty-dance, I tried to rush him to the litter box, to no avail; he left a long trail of little poops along the carpet at the end of the bed and a little spot on the bedspread (that we just got back from the cleaners for the 3rd time, due to kitten diarrhea!) He watches me closely; does not run when I go to pick him up; and has slept in my lap or in the basket next to me while working today. He is not quite ready for adoption, but may be soon.
Polani had a break through today! He slept on the bed with us for a while, played with us, and wanted to be pet, touched, stroked, etc. Curled up next to Skeeter, and even purred. He took my hand and put it on his head-very cute.
Sticks is being a pain still. When I was giving Polani yet another bath, which is horrible every time, Polani was screaming at the top of his lungs, making the other cats really upset. His sister was climbing all over my feet; Ho’onui jumped on the counter and yelled at me; and Sticks, he was pretty funny, thought he didn’t care about these babies…he jumped on the counter, watched for a few minutes, when Polani started screaming again, Sticks yelled at me and starting hitting me. He tried to take my hand away from Polani! He stayed there, observing, throughout the whole ordeal. Too bad I don’t have a nanny-cam to catch this stuff.
Carmel went on a walk-about today, escaped out the door that Ariel left open. She disappeared into the forest and we have not seen her since. I sure hope she doesn’t stay out for weeks like last time. She was injured badly, lost 10 lbs., and cost me an arm and a leg for the treatment. We kind of thought she was getting ready to bust out; she was pacing the hallway, trying to get into Ariel’s room and bathroom (not that she can jump that high, but still…), and not backing away when you went to the door. I was very angry with Ariel, who claims it was an accident; more likely it was her not giving a damn and not shutting the door properly. Her little friend came by twice today, so maybe she’ll lead back home. Speaking of, I think I need to catch her, she is not looking well. She lets me pet her some of the time, but I am hesitant to just grab her-if I miss, there goes all the work I have put into getting her to trust me right out the door! I don’t think we can trap her again; she stayed away all the days we had the trap out for another cat.
Polani and Ho’onui have not shown any signs of the big bad “G” and it looks like Kanaka Lele’s poop is getting a little more solid, not the running diarrhea, which is a good sign. Looks like pudding now. Maybe we did catch it early??? Will be out of meds tomorrow, but I’m not sure they will be ready to be off it this soon; they have only had 1 treatment on Sat (8th), then 2 for every day since (10 days). I think the vet said minimum 2 weeks, but they did not give me enough for that many days. All I know is if it is starting to work, I want it to continue to work!
We took the pen outside to clean it; it was so gross it was not even funny! They decided they didn’t like it and would cry when you put them in it-can’t stand hearing them cry like that (or the look on their little faces, like they are in jail). Plus, Sticks decided that every time we put their blankie in it that it was his duty to pee on it. So his pee and her diarrhea made quite the mess. It is in the garage for right now; as soon as your little one comes over, we’ll bring it back in. These two like to be “big cats” so they have to sleep on the back of the couch now. Sometimes they sneak and sleep with us, which is fine.
Oh yeah, we have to boil all the water before we can let them drink it; talk about a pain in the neck.
Kanaka really does not like Inky at all, it is so funny, her tiny little voice trying to hiss, and she gets this look in her eyes-as if she is so tough or something. RBH has smelled him and head-butted him, his sign of affection. Ho’onui has smelled him then freaked out and ran all side-ways with his tail fluffing out. Polani at first couldn’t figure things out; I think he thought he was looking in a mirror; he tries to chase him, but Inky doesn’t like to play yet. He tried to curl up with Lillie but she wasn’t going for it. Sticks just let him sniff him and did nothing, which surprised me! The other cats have ignored him. Typical. Skeeter just brought him back to me, he is in the basket, not too sure if he will stay there but he’s lying down with his head hanging over the side looking at me. Very cute!
Inky hung out with 4 of the males yesterday with me in bed; he is doing better, but still hides. I’ve cleaned out his ears three times, and they are still filling back up with brown yucky stuff-probably mites. He scratches and scratches, and scratches; I’m trying to break him of this habit, but it is not going very well. Last night, after cleaning his ears out again, they were bleeding from being chomped so much; I used a little Neosporin in them and kept him from cleaning or scratching. They look a little better today, but still full of junk. He is like MakaLena-wants to be held and cuddled all the time. Not very independent-wants a Mama. He needs more time to socialize with other cats/kittens. Oh yeah, he did play for a bit yesterday as well-trying to teach him not to bite so hard when he is playing-I think he is getting the message.span>

The new little guy we are calling Sweet Pea, for lack of a better name really, and he is super sweet. He just started playing a little yesterday, not running and hiding as much today. Small steps, but still progress! He absolutely beautiful. I looked him up to see what he might be and he matches the description of a Siberian. We had to bring Gray-Girl in too, she was looking pretty bad. She is the one we relocated here; think she was a pet before; usually friendly; lets me pet her most of the time, but very hesitant about it. We thought we would need the drop trap to catch her, but I ended up coaxing her in the house, then shut the door. Gave her a bath and cut her nails; then spent 3+ hours going through her hair, it is long like a Persian. I ended up cutting out tons of matted hair and stuff that was tangled so badly I couldn’t get it out. I did not find any wounds, which she thought she had, so that is good. She had been limping one day, but I couldn’t find anything on that either. Her ears need to be taken care of, but she had had enough for one day, so I let her down. She has now hidden herself behind the file cabinet and I cannot get her. I put out food and water for her, then shut the door. She seems to be eating. Skeeter said she did come out earlier when she thought he wasn’t home, but then bolted back behind again. I can’t fix her ears if I cannot reach her. She’ll figure it out eventually!
Sweet Pea actually looks a lot better now then when we first did his in-take. He is playing like crazy; hanging out with the other kittens/cats; and not running and hiding. Sometimes his instincts take over and he starts to bolt, but I call his name and he stops, which is good. He is definitely a cutie!
