Today we headed out to Corfu, a quaint island a tad larger than Maui. It was picturesque with it’s clear blue water, sloping mountains, and lush green landscape. We drove out to the beautiful palace where Queen Elizabeth resided during much of her life. It was structured and decorated in the Renaissance period style. It had the most magnificent colors throughout the palace, with each room depicting its own unique style and taste. The colors were so vibrant, one could not image how anyone could not be happy residing in a place filled with such joyous colors. The walls and ceilings were covered in yellows, both lemon and pastel; Wedgewood blue; lime and a rich dark green; and one of the prettiest colors was what they call “rotten apple” in Corfu-we would call it a cross between watermelon, terracotta, and salmon. We then drove through the countryside to another palace, where Prince Andrew was born, which later became a government build, and is now a museum. The first floor was fabulous with original pieces of furniture, artifacts, and photos. The second floor had one incredible room, the ceiling and upper walls adorned in Wedgewood blue and bright white. The rest of the rooms were not worth mentioning here. From there we drove along the coast to the town square. The scenery was gorgeous! We saw several of the other isands, the crystal clear water, ruins, landscape, and new and old structures. Once we got into the square, the little town came alive. Everyone who was anyone was in the square; the young and the old. This is the meeting place for all the town inhabitants. We walked along the cobblestone paths, gazing at the various trinkets, jewelry, and local pieces, but could not find a sweatshirt to save our lives! We eventually ended up at the largest restaurante in the area for lunch. Everyone ordered different Greek foods and I, of course, had to sample the Greek pizza, which was outstanding. I would say this is the second best pizza I have had on this trip (Roma being the best). As we were getting up to leave, it down-poured so we had to wait a tad before heading back to the little cobblestone streets with their wonderful little shops. We finished our day with a 45 minute walk back to the ship from the town square; at least it was an easy walk this time! Corfu is definitely on my list to visit again! Thumbs up for this hot spot!=)
