Naples & Pompeii
What we didn’t tell you in the Naples epilog is that Pompeii is located right here, just outside Naples, on the way to Sorrento. This city was developed around the area of Forum, a point of encounter for important trade routes; a clearing station for traffic to the hinterland. It appears this city was dominated by the Etruscan with a Greek influence. Historians have not uncovered enough artifacts to make solid determinations about the people of this city or any other factual matter. They have uncovered enough to make determinations of the various buildings and possible life-style of the people. There are a ton of builds in this city, here is a brief list: the Temple of Apollo, the Doric Temple, the Temple of Bacchus, House of Octavius Quartio, Porta Marina, Basilica, the Forum, Eumachia, Temple of Vespasian, Sanctary of the Lares, Macellum Publici, Temple of Jupiter, Horrea, Via dell’ Abbondanza, Triangular Forum, Doric Temple, Temple of Isis, House of Menander, House of Diadoumeni, Fullonica Stephani, Thermopolium with Lararium, Thermopolium of Asellina, House of Trebius Valens and Paquius Proculus or Cuspius Pansa, House of Octaius Quartio or of Loreius Tiburtinus, and Venus in the Shell, House of Iulia Felix, several theaters and amphitheaters, gardens, baths, various streets, Lupanar, bakeries, House of Lucretius, and yhe SilverWedding, House of the Centennial and M. Obellius Firmus, House of the Golden Cupids, , Great Fountain, House of Dioscuri and Vettii, House of the Faun, Temple of Fortuna Augusta, arches, House of Sallust, Porta Ercolano and Via Sepolcri, and Villa of Diomedes and Mysteries. There are a lot of ruins, most looking identical, so if you see a couple of the big ones, you really don’t have to see all of them! You can look up all sorts of information about this site, the buildings, and the history on various websites, historical reference books, and tourism books.
